It certainly doesn't contain all of their hits, and it does contain some songs that were not hits. At least these remixes contain actual instruments.į. ![]() The main problem I had with most of Richard's previous remix efforts was that they sounded too electronic. This is finally a Carpenters remix project that I can enjoy. It's just that they don't stray very far from the originals.Į. Don't get me wrong - you definitely won't hear these versions and confuse them with the originals. I wish there had been a bit more experimentation instead of recreation of the original track with new orchestral recordings. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is up to each listener to decide. A lot of the changes in the arrangements are subtle. I don't doubt those singers can sing, but what's provided here is just corny beyond belief.ĭ. Fortunately these really only come in at the beginning and end of the cd, but these massed voices just sound like muzak to me. The voices that are newly recorded are terribly boring. What I hear as an instrumental theme closing out a track is instead the intro to the following track, even though the music themes (for the most part) belong to the previous song. CD track indexing is odd for the songs that run together. Reminds of of Singles 69-73 in the sense that some songs are segued with newly recorded orchestral parts.ī. I have listened to this disc a couple of times now and here are my initial thoughts:Ī. Postman" and wish it had been on the Target version I wonder why it appears to be the lone track not used and if it'll show up on anything. Song-wise, I definitely would've preferred "Those Good Old Dreams" to "Please Mr. For those not near a store, I don't know the return procedure for online sales as to whether they pick up the return shipping for an "unwanted gift," but if you return it to a store, the shipping was free so in the end you'll get a full refund and have just spent a bit more for the SHM Japanese version. Just print out your e-mail confirmation or write down your order number before you go in. Plus, one other thing: if you're anywhere near a Target store and haven't opened your copy or even received it yet (like myself), you can return it even if you bought it online. Target is based in the US, so there will be fans out there in other countries who want the bonus track version based on researching it, they don't ship internationally, and people in other locations don't necessarily want to pay the cost of ordering the Japanese pressing, assuming they even know about it. There's at least five dealers selling it for between $20 and $25 right now, and their pages indicate they've been selling them. I feel bad for those who ordered both the Target and Japanese versions based on the comment on the Target site (taken from a Carpenters forum), but the advice to keep the Target version sealed and sell it is probably a good idea.
